Meeting Ted Dekker

You may remember me mentioning The Outlaw Tour a few weeks ago.

Well, I went. It was incredible. Ted’s message (the message of his new book “Outlaw”) was exactly what I needed in so many ways. Watch the above video before continuing.

Okay, so his main point was, our light isn’t “little”. We are the light of the world. Every day we live our lives in fear of what others think about us. Don’t deny it. You’ve checked your hair in the window of a vacant car to make sure you looked good. We all have that bent, wanting to be pleasing, wanting to be beautiful, handsome, likable, loved. But Ted’s message was this: We died with Christ on that cross, and when He rose again on the third day, He brought us back to life with Him. We are made new in Him. When the Father looks upon us, He see’s the perfection of Christ, nothing less. We cannot become any more beautiful and perfect than we are right now, we merely continue to discover how breathtaking we are as we ask God to open our eyes and see how He see’s us.

As Ted said, “We get so consumed and wrapped up in this idea that we are a physical being having this spiritual experience with our Creator. No. We are Spiritual beings having this short physical experience on earth before He takes us back to our true home.”

The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand (Matthew 3:2) it is within us. The Holy Spirit is the very essence of Heaven. Our bodies are merely the costume we wear while we act out this play of life on earth.  Our true self is Spiritual, longing, aching to be in our rightful home.

This is Jesus talking about us here in John 17:20-26 (emphasis added):

I ask not only on behalf of these [The disciples], but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

“Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

We have been given the same glory as Christ. We are one with Christ. Think on that for a moment. Those who have accepted the gift of the Holy Spirit have been made new, clothed in the complete glory of Christ, made perfect in His love. You can become no more beautiful, no more handsome than you are right this moment. Because you have been made perfect in your Heavenly Father’s eyes, and no one else’s opinion matters.

Read the book. I have a feeling it’s going to be fabulous.

Oh yeah, also, I got to meet, hug, and get pictures with Ted. He insisted on signing my necklace. (While I was still wearing it. Awkward moments by Ted Dekker. )

He gave me two hugs, because he was so happy that I had one of the original necklaces and had been at The Gathering 09.

Temptations

I know all about the despair of overcoming chronic temptations. It is not serious provided self-offended petulance, annoyance at breaking records, impatience, etc doesn’t get the upper hand. No amount of fails will really undo us if we keep on picking ourselves up each time. We shall of course be very muddy and tattered children by the time we reach home. But the bathrooms are all ready, the towels put out, & the clean clothes are in the airing cupboard. The only fatal thing is to lose one’s temper and give up. It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present to us: it is the very sign of His presence.
